A couple years ago, I read this article about this guy who had the ultimate dream job. I think that the article mentioned dream job in the title which is probably why it caught my eye. He got to travel all around the world and stay at the best hotels, eat the best food, and take advantage of all the goodies and amenities – so that he could write about it. That’s basically what Anthony Bourdain does now. I love that man. I’m not sure about what type of hotels he stays at but- I doubt that he is in anyway roughing it.
Well, I just read an article in the Times today that makes my mouth water. It is about Meridith Baer (above). She is a home stager. Let me clarify. Just saying that she is just a home stager is kinda like saying that a SubZero is just a fridge. (Let me apologize for the fridge comparison. An obscene amount of food storage information has been poured into my skull this week.)
She has no formal training in art, real estate, or architecture. The former screenwriter has the ability to project a narrative in a space. In her case, very large and extravagant spaces. She has a strong vision and a sharp eye. Even with the best schooling, you can’t teach someone that.
She imagines the type of character who would inhabit the space in detail. She scours estate sales, flea markets and buys beautiful things. She has a large crew of employees ready to help create the vision.
After the team finishes staging the home in the video, she says, “I don’t want it to look staged. I want it too like someone just ran and answered the phone and they’ll be right back.” I like that. This should be applied to personal style as well.
