This is the life according to Flare (April 2010).

Being able to work on a circus of a shoot complete with a grizzly bear, shrunken room, a Koosh chamber, and stalagmite headdresses.

Enjoy!

Here some more images from Friday’s shoot.

These are my favorites because I love accidents and these are for the most part, pleasant accidents that turned out in the camera. In the first shot, I think that Jenna looks like Dolores O’Riordan or Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Look at this dress from Grey Ant.

I LOVE THIS DRESS.

I have been obsessed with this LA based label for a really long time. If you have never been to their site, you should just to look at the Collections section.

<< Melanie Ward for Blouson Noir >><< Melanie Ward and Graham Tabor | Blouson Noir >><< Melanie Ward and Graham Tabor | Blouson Noir >><< Melanie Ward and Graham Tabor | Blouson Noir >>

Melanie Ward is one of my most favorite stylists. Ever.

The first time that I heard about her was in a mid 90s issue of Harper’s Bazaar. The article was a personal style feature and one of her friends described a thrift shopping trip with Melanie. He said that she could dig through what he deemed to be miles and miles of junk, and she’d be able to unearth one thing that was amazing.

That description hooked me on her.

That issue came out was during a time when I was obsessed with Helmut Lang (still one of my favorite designers and Ward’s former boss), Jil Sander, Daryl-K, and models Stella Tennant, Carolyn Murphy and Trish Goff.

Well, 2010 is here and Ward has teamed up with Graham Tabor to actually make clothing for the label Blouson Noir. After I read about the news in British Vogue (April 2010), I Googled like crazy to see more looks. I was a bit disappointed with the looks that were officially released for press. But then I found a video of the designers discussing the line on STYLEPOV. The images above are screen captures (I’m sorry) but they show the prettiest underpinnings for the line.

A gauze first-aid themed bra-lette? And then one offered in a sisal-looking fabric? Yes please. There is one other piece that I saw that I covet. It’s a white button front dress with a strategic slash under the bust. You can catch a glimpse of it in the video on STYLEPOV.

I found this portfolio in a only a few clicks. This is the work of Sandra Suy from Barcelona, Spain.

I loved Barcelona. I loved the presence of Gaudi, getting lost, and getting coffee at a cafe where outside seating was in the middle of the street. The waitress would have to brave traffic to bring us more coffee.

<< Behati Prinsloo | Elle France | March 2010 >>

I have seen cashmere and knit bikinis, but never have I seen a cane-coaster swim top.

I’m really happy that I came across this editorial in Elle France (March 2010). Lately, I have been thinking about the relationship between friends/artists and how they influence each other. I remember looking at Picasso and Braque’s Cubist images around 1910 and at first glance, confusing them with one another. They had similar color choices, subject matter, and their strokes were alike.

<< Fake Prada Boutique >>

My former boss had this picture up in his office. It’s not like his office was covered in pictures but the fact that he had this postcard of a fake Prada boutique posted was pretty cool.

It’s interesting to see the images people choose to put in their work spaces or everyday flow. I think that framed artwork is personal, but far less personal than random scraps and tear-outs. Framed presentation-ready stuff is for showing off in some way. Random ephemera with coffee stains and scratches are truly for the person who put them up. There is less emphasis on the packaging. These are the things they REALLY want to see. And these are the things that they really want around them.

I saw a link on The Satorialist to an interesting looking article titled Miuccia and Me. It reveals the juggernaut husband and wife fashion team. The players: Patrizio Bertelli and Miuccia Prada. I am more than intrigued.

But, I am about to get out my chair and walk out the door so I don’t even have enough time to finish my coffee let alone an article. I am a huge nerd and I realize more and more everyday that it doesn’t take much to entertain me. Later, when I have time, I am going to get comfy and submerge myself into this article eating and devouring every letter and space. And the author Alessandra Galloni will be happy because she probably got paid per word.

Now that I have built it up, you have to read it.

<< Liu Wen | Beauty Biz >>

G O R G E O U S.

Liu Wen is the best best best and I love her. This is the way Asian hair should curl. Subtle. Lovely. Soft. Mind you, Asian hair is never naturally curly. It comes the way the Model-T’s originally came – only in black. It is packaged stick-straight like uncooked spaghetti.

My mother gave me a perm when I was 8, and I have very few pictures from that period. It looked like Patty and Selma hair. You know, Marge’s chain smoking sisters on The Simpsons. I cringe. Then I look at Liu (not Lucy ) and smile.

I have been a bit sick for the past week or so and slowly, I have been getting better. T MAG’s Modernism on a Chain gave me gold fever, and my first instinct was not to medicate and flush it out of my system.

I love miniatures. I love these little charms. Mini furniture!!! Mini tried and true, well designed furniture.

Tiny Little Chairs has made mid century furniture shopping painless. Either you have no space for it, you can’t find it, or you can’t afford it. Forget about all of that and wear that chair that you covet and adore around your neck. Let people know you really REALLY respect Charles and Ray Eames, Mies van der Rhoe, or Eero Saarinen.

(Top to bottom: Alexander Wang Cutout Ponte Knit dress $620, A.P.C. Hoodie $140, Balmain destroyed jeans €1055, IKEA Goran folding table $49,50, SUPERFUTURE shades in honey hue €115)

This post is a result of random items that I spotted and had to have in my mind. Bondage body-con dress? I’ll wait for a high street version. Balmain? I would never spend a G on shredded jeans when I would have much more fun tailoring a pair to my legs and then meticulously mapping out the destructive plans in tailor’s chalk.

Furniture? I always say, you can never have enough folding tables – especially a functional and handsome looking one like this. It’s great for work and extra dinner guest. Lastly, just look at how great those sunglasses would look on fresh sun-kissed skin and paired with jeans you destroyed yourself.

I’m smiling to myself.

Oh Oh Oh nostalgia. Those good old grunge days that I close my eyes and reminisce (Mary J-style). Now I can open my eyes and see a nice resurgence. Here are some images from UK Vogue (April 2010) to bring you up to date with the now.

<< Super shades for a blinding future >>

I’m getting these sunglasses. I realized that I wear a lot of neutrals, and my trick is to accent my palette of ebony and charcoal with bright pearly whites. I used to wear white acetate aviators and I think that I am going to start wearing something other that black and tortoise shell on my face.

Sadly, I collect vintage Ray Bans and don’t wear any of them. Ever.

<< Selby book is coming >><< Colette >>

I heard through my Colette e-newsletter that The Selby will be releasing a book in early April. If you love looking at intimate pictures of the homes of creative people, then you will love the site. Below are pictures of the home of  Sarah Cottier, a gallerist; Ashley Barber – photographer and gallery director; and Ruby Barber, student at their home in Sydney.

I never get tired of the balance between semi-minimal and strategic color.

<< Chris Heads | Photography Diary >>

Almost everyone has been quitting and I am really happy for them. I hope that they stick with it and never never look back. It reminds me of this article that I read a really long time ago about addiction and substance abuse. It mentioned an addiction center that gives you a light bulb with the date written on it. The Sharpied date acts as a tombstone – the last day you were dependent.

Now looking back on what I have written, I realize that I am a huge ass. I am cheering on my friends but the pictures that supplement my support, make smoking look sexy and almost pure. You can thank photographer Chris Heads for that. His diary section on the site is very voyeuristic and delicious.

I’m a jerk. Sorry.

For more pictures (I’m talking about deep archives) posted everyday of pretty people smoking, visit Le Smoking.

I told you I was an ass.

I have been visiting Emma Nygren’s blog for quite sometime, and it’s one of my faves. Above are shots of her flat, I think. The post is in another language, and I didn’t feel like translating. She always has the best pictures. I love the color and tone of the images. I think that she’s a graphic designer. Her name looks very similar to Nguyen, the Smith of Vietnamese last names.

As you may notice, the look of the DALAT blog has been updated. All morning, I have been editing old postings and resizing images. I think that I am going to edit posting for 2010 only. I didn’t realize just how many posting there were in total.

<< Jesse Jenkins | Always Ashamed courtesy of DripBook >>

I was tinkering with Dripbook this morning. I scan the thumbnails and see where one picture can take me. Here’s an image from Jesse Jenkins. I found candid images of Kate Moss and this image that I really took to.

I really miss photography and all the old school processes that come with it. Ohhh – darkrooms, filters, fix stains, focusing scopes, different paper, an element of chance and money just flying out of my pockets (not so great)!
